Obesity and our Young

Are you aware that there is a epidemic of obesity among our children in this
country?

According to the U.S. Surgeon General, and The Director of the Center for
Disease Control,  obesity in our children has risen 54% in the past
20 years.

In an article printed in the July 3. 2000 issue of Newsweek Magazine, titled
ëChildhood obesity now threatens one in three kids with long-term
health problems, and the crisis is growing, (Generation XXL, by Geoffrey
Cowley).  The author reports that ìObese kids suffer both physically and
emotionally throughout childhood, and those who remain heavy as adolescents tend
to stay that way into adulthood.  The resulting illnesses-diabetes, heart
disease, high blood pressure, several cancers- now claim an estimated half-
million American lives each year.î

In the same publication dated September 2, 2000, the authors wrote:
The
silent Killer: Scientific research shows a persistent explosion of cases of
stage 2 Diabetes in persons in their prime and young children (An American
Epidemic, Diabetes, by Jerry Adler and Claudia Kalb).

This does not have to happen to our young children.  We have the answer, but
it will take dedicated people to market the product and get the word out to our
communities.  That’s where you and I come in.  Please take the time to learn
about how we as concerned citizens can help the children, the parents and their
teachers, to put an end to this increasing health epidemic.
